So I’ve had a few of my brooch designs sitting around unpainted… such as these babushkas, sometimes I just can’t decided how I want to paint or complete a design so I just let it sit until it comes to me.

I’m pretty happy with the colours I selected, they’ve stayed simple and bold… but not too bold. Anyway, I had a lovely few hours painting them today… painting is some kind of magical therapy to me at the moment… I better be careful or everything I own will be painted before I know it!

I’ll be adding these little ladies to the Little Love Boat Etsy store tomorrow.

I know I’ve posted about handmade cards before, but I’ll never let a good thing die! Really (in my opinion) handmade cards are one of the simplest ways to win a heart. There are so many ways you can go about making a card, for me planning is never one of them… simply use the things you have laying around!

This card is for friends who are getting married today. Consisting of plain old box cardboard… paint, illustration, glue & scissors and then voilà… we have a cute wedding card… beats paying for a card and is a whole lot more fun and personal too.

On March 29, at 20 weeks into pregnancy, after a week of laying in a hospital bed with complications, constant monitoring and an IV in my arm, our beautiful little girl Isabel entered the world, it was far too early for her tiny little self to survive. Our hearts broke in that moment, they continue to ache but each day we become stronger and learn to cope better with the situation. We can only love each other and hold our heads high for the future.

We have been amazed by the kind words, gifts and gestures of friends and family but I thought I’d share one gift from some of my amazing girlfriends which touched my heart… and also made me burst into tears, I think because it’s the kind of thing I would have liked to get or make for my little girl had she have stayed with us longer, and of course because my friends are so wonderful and thoughtful. It’s hand painted plate by The Story Book Rabbit.

Plate by Story Book Rabbit

This event has put a little pause to much of my blogging and creative adventures, however I have a little time away from work coming up now so creative projects should hopefully be back in action soon.

Looking for a quick & easy meal for a hot day? I know I was today… and aside from the actual cooking of pasta this meal was perfect.

This recipe is a goodie but an oldie to me, mum taught me to make it way back whenever. It’s meat free, can be served warm or cold and as a main or on the side.

Pesto pasta salad

Ingredients (makes enough for 4 generous mains/a large salad serving bowl)
375g pasta – spirals are a winner, but of course anything goes
1 ripe avocado
125g cheese – any cheese you like, feta works really well but I went with plain old tasty this time round
100g cherry tomatoes – of course any tomatoes will work fine
125g cashews
150g sun dried tomato pesto

Method
Cook pasta, drain in colander and cool using cold running water.
Cut avocado, tomatoes & cheese into cubes, mix with pasta in a large bowl.
Add cashews & pesto, mix, serve… and “hey pesto” you’re done!
